Cybermetrics

Cybermetrics (International Journal of Scientometrics, Informetrics and Bibliometrics, ISSN 1137-5019) is an International Peer-reviewed electronic-only journal devoted to the study of the quantitative analysis of scholarly and scientific communications. It is open to world-wide researchers to publish and discuss their findings. Cybermetrics is an irregularly-appearing journal started in 1997 as there is no scheduling for issues.

In addition to methodologies and results of scientometric, bibliometric or informetric research, it also covers some other subjects such as

  • Application of scientometric methodology to the analysis of scientific communication in the Web and the Usenet, including the development of new Internet R&D indicators.
  • Uses of citation analyses, including the hypertext linking phenomena, the informetric laws and distributions, and any mathematical model derived. Studies on aging, obsolescence, dispersion and endogamy phenomena of the scientific literature.
  • Impact of the Internet on scientific co-operation and other aspects related to science organization, information flows and interdisciplinary connections.
  • Informetric applications to Science policy and R&D management, including questions related to the emergence of national or regional STI systems.
  • Evaluation of electronic scientific journals and peer-review processes in the World Wide Web.

The editors of Cybermetrics are also organizing annual conferences since 1997 to disseminate results from quantitative analysis of the Internet.Cybermetrics also maintain a series of directories of electronic resources including secondary archives of interesting web papers in pdf format with a aim to provide a reference tool to those researchers involved in the quantitative description and analysis of the Internet as a scholarly communication tool.

Cybermetrics is published in English and distributed FREE on the World Wide Web by the Centro de Informacin y Documentacin Cientfica (CINDOC) [http://www.cindoc.csic.es/] of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientficas (CSIC) [http://www.csic.es/] in Madrid (Spain).

Scientometrics

http://www.wkap.nl/prod/j/0138-9130

Scientometrics [ISSN: 0138-9130] is an International Journal for all Quantitative Aspects of the Science of Science, Communication in Science and Science Policy. The journal aims at publishing original studies, short communications, preliminary reports, review papers, letters to the editor and book reviews on scientometrics. The topics covered are results of research concerned with the quantitative features and characteristics of science. Emphasis is placed on investigations in which the development and mechanism of science are studied by means of (statistical) mathematical methods. It is useful to those interested in scientometrics, scientific communication, research policy, science policy, input-output economics of science.

It is available electronically via Kluwer Online and contact them at KluwerOnline[at]wkap[dot]nl for additional information.

Informetrics

mailto Olle Persson at olle.persson[at]soc[dot]umu[dot]se

This site provides a series of bibliometric maps* based on papers published in Scientometrics. They are all based on 1062 papers published in Vol 1: 1978 to Vol 44: 1999 and the records were retrieved from SSCI using the Web of Science interface.
