Technology/Process Description:
Kumbhat Holographics is a leading provider of Holograms and Holographic films in South India. Its fully integrated in house manufacturing facility houses a hi-tech Computer Division, a Master shooting Laser Lab, Embossing, Electro forming and Adhesive Lamination and Die Cutting machines The facility ensures precise registration, consistently sharp & bright images and superior embossing under the expert supervision.
Process of Manufacturing:
- Hologram can be made from artwork, provided it fits into the actual size of the Hologram without distorting the artwork. Firstly the designing of the Hologram is done incorporating the customer requirements.
- Once the designing is completed, the Master is shot. A laser is used to shoot the image on a photo resist plate (much like conventional photography).
- The Master is then used to Emboss the image on to the specified film (metalised polyester). The embossed film is coated with adhesive and then laminated onto the Release Liner. Subsiquently, the Holograms are cut to the required size. Final 100% visual inspection is carried out to ensure zero effect.
Other Essentials:
- Hologram can have a maximum of 5 layers or levels. However, it is recommended that a maximum of 2/3 layers are used so that the brightness and clarity of the Hologram is not compromised.
- Holograms are best viewed under a white Light source (Table Lamp etc.) or natural light (sunlight).
- Hologram can be embossed on Polyester, BOPP, PVC and Aluminum Foil. The most common base material used in Holograms is Metalized Polyester as it has a high gloss value.
- The minimum size of a Hologram sticker is 8mm*8mm*8mm Dia. The maximum size can be 6*6.As the size increases, the cost of the Hologram will also increase.
- Hologram stickers normally come in 23 Micron, 36 Micron and 50 Micron film thicknesses. As the thickness increases, the cost of the Hologram also increases.
- Holograms can be made on Silver or on any other colored foil.
- Tamper proof Holograms can also have a break away pattern such as Checkerboard, Honey comb etc. This means that when the Hologram is peeled of from the product onto which is affixed, a Checkerboard or Honey comb pattern will be left behind.
- Hologram can also be embossed on Hot Stamping Foil. In this case, the Hologram can be hot sampled onto paper or plastic. However, for this application, hot stamping machine is required.
- Holograms can not be affixed onto any oily surface, powdery surface, stretchable surface or any surface that has a silicon or similar coating on it. Holograms are generally not very effective on uneven surface.
Technology/Product Specifications:
Product: Holograms
Hologram is a high-tech optical laser recording of visually a 3D image bearing the multi layer impressions of the customized art work with various security features demonstrating multiple images reconstructed as one image having complete parallax & depth-of-field (due to high refraction of light) floating in space behind and/ or front of the 2D recording medium. Different cross sections of the image can be seen along different directions when viewed at correct angle of light. Its dramatic effects look real because of vibrant colors, motion and images at different depths.
Holograms are actually 3D images formed using a laser and light sensitive material, which is chemically similar to a photographic emulsion. Basically it records a pattern of infinitesimal lines called interference pattern due to the interaction of two beams of laser light, after processing, the hologram is illuminated at the same angle as one of the beams (the reference beam) used during the original exposure. The hologram re-creates the second beam to form a virtual 3D images.
Type 1-2D,3D Single Channel 2 or 3 Layers : This type of Hologram has 2 or 3 layers and no switching effects i.e. channels.
Type 2-2D 3D Multi Channel between Layers,2Layers: This type of Hologram has 2 layers, with switching effect between the layers i.e. when the angle of viewing is changed, the foreground artwork disappears so that only the background artwork is visible.
Type 3- 2D 3D Multi Channel in the Foreground: This type of Hologram has 2 or 3 layers, with switching effect in the foreground i.e. when the angle of viewing is changed , the foreground artwork changes to show a different artwork in the foreground. A maximum of 4 different artworks can be incorporated in the foreground. This allows the customer more flexibility in terms of the design of the Hologram.
Type 4 Dotmatrix: Here a Dotmatrix effect is incorporated in the Hologram. The Dotmatrix effect can have kinetic movement and can be visible from more angles. This effect also has more brightness as compared to a conventional Hologram. However, this effect can only be incorporated in the foreground. The Dotmatrix effect can be combined with any type of Hologram as detailed above. In all the above types of Holograms, lines artworks are used to make the Master. The line artworks in the different layers provide in the 3D effect.
Type 5 True 3D: In this type of Hologram, a scaled down model is used to make the Master. The end result is that the customer can actually see a 3D object in the Hologram complete with the shadows and contours. Line artworks can also be incorporated in this Hologram to make a 3D 2D Hologram. In this type of Hologram, a scaled down model is used to make the Master. Advantages of Holograms:
- Difficulty to Replicate
- Difficulty to Alter/Transpose
- Verifiable by Manufacturer
- Cost Effective
- Easy Application on product
